Allright!

I thought it was time to show you guys the coffin we'll bring this year.
Now first off, thanks to everyone for the awesome parties we have had over the years.
But it was time to turn the Coffin Blaster from a night club, and into a "bon fire" :)
We wanted to bring it back to the basics. A cool boombox that we could have in the camp, and enjoy dark nights under the pavilion between the tents.
So that's what we did.
But believe me wan I say, it still has the boom to throw a big party!
If we feel like it! :)
Now we have taken content from the tower from our old coffin, and with Saturnus' help, modified it to give a little more bass, so it works as a solo unit.
As usual, I used some spare time since last festival to design it in 3D, and now it's come from that, to completion in the real world.

First, here are a few of our 3D drawings to give you an idea:

It took some time before I started to photograph my progress, so here is the intire coffin, with separated chambers for batteries, filters and amp in the bottom, and left/right channel speakers in the top. These carry the exact same volume as our old tower. And before sealing the lid, I siliconed every angle of the inside, to make it air tight!
Image

I siliconed all along the edge, and then put on the actual lid.
What you see here is the chamber for the batteries, amp and filters.
The walls you see support a drawer that can be removed.
The little gray cylindrically shaped piece of metal coming out of the wall is the actuator we used to lift the lid last year.
This year it will push the lid out sideways, only revealing the drawer.
The walls will leave any spilling over the edges falling on the outside of the electrical equipment. When the drawer is removed, the electronics will be revealed for any field maintenance.
Image

Then it was time for the light in the lid!
It was almost a complete replica of last years gig.
Only this year, we only used a series of 10 diodes, instead of the lightstrips we used last year. This was to conserve power.
We cut a 10mm deep line along the inside of the frame, and installed the LEDs within this groove. Then put silicone on top.
We use a matt/clear silicone. When it hardens, it provides as a natural light conductor, emitting light far beyond the actual diode, spreading the light sideways.
Looks cool in the dark!

Here is another peek into the ''engine bay''.
The batteries are four 18Ah 12v Lithium-ion. So 72Ah in total.
They were perfect for this build! The in whole battery pack weighs in at only 4 kilos!
The sure beats a 25kilo car battery with 60Ah :)
And they come with a 230 volt charger about the size of a cellphone charger, so we can leave the whole pack to charge in the luggage storage if we want.
Except we got that covered with a 55w solar panel :)
The gray boxes in the second photo are passive filters for the speakers by Saturnus' design.

So I painted the light-frame and the coffin separately to get the best paint job.
Then I screwed the lid in place, puttied over the screws, sanded it down, and gave it a final finish with paint.
Looks pretty sharp!

We decided to use this old scrolling LED sign from the Coffin Blaster 3.0 in this build as well.
But we decided to make it a little nicer. So we picked it apart, then cut out the footprint of the sign, about 5 mm deep in the 15mm plywood, and inserted it.
Then siliconed it into place.
I had some red plexiglass, and some nice chromed screws laying around the warehouse.
So we took a big piece to cover it all, and I thought it looked super clean!
Image

Here is a little look at what the coffin looks like in the dark! :)
Image

And here is me and our dog, Thorvald posing a little!
Image

Thorvald aproves BTW!
Image

And then it's finally time to install the speakers!
We run on two 8" midranges, and two horns with magnets.
Image

And now for the first field test!
BTW here you can see how the lid moves with the actuator :)
Image

And here it is, all finished!
The only thing different is that I in this photo still haven't put the final finishing coat of paint on the light-frame. Just sanded down the putty.
And PA-style grills that will be painted red and cover the midranges. These are still in their way in the mail. Will give an extra punch to the look I believe :)
Image

And this year, as the every year, we have the Baby Coffin!
This is my girl working on it! It's her coffin, so I leave the build to her :)
Saturnus has tweaked this one a little for us as well. 2 tweeters and two 4" midranges running of a lepai 2020.
Image

While Christine works, we top up the battery, Roskilde-style!
Image

And here it is! It's got straps from a backpack, so you can run around playing music while you buy beer or take a piss.
It, of course, has a baby inside. It's umbilical cord, is the minijack-cable :)
New feature this year, are two cigarette inputs!
One to charge from solar panel, and the other to charge iphones or ipods :)
We figured it was better to have the charger on the Baby Coffin, leaving all the power in the Mini Coffin for the camp's music!
We have also given the baby in the coffin some tattoos this year :)
Image

The world needs more girls with powertools!
Image

And since the Mini Coffin is now completely finished, I installed the Coca Cola bottle opener!
This is the ONLY part that has followed every single Coffin Blaster since the first one we build!
From 2007 until 2012!
Coffin Blaster 1.0 - 1,5 - 2.0 - 2,5 - 3,0 and now, the Mini Coffin (4,0).
Image

So there you have it!
The complete build of the newest Coffin Blaster!
As always, big thanks to Saturnus for his help in making it sound as good as it does!
Feel free to ask questions, if you have any!

See you at Roskilde!
Feel free to drop by and say ''hello''!
We'll be in C47, as we are every year! <3
see you inn the que !!!
Nice to see some updates, but I must admit that I was afraid that you will not come this year because of the lack of activity in this thread. :D
This year we will be there all week and Camp in C (as we always do except that last year I couldn't arrive until wednesday due to graduation festivities) So I will definitely see you a couple of times this year :D

haha! Yeah we have been keeping it on the low-down this year :)
But I'll never stop going. Or, that is, I always say I'll stop going when my kids are emberrased to go with their dad! First I need to get kids, so you'll be stuck with me untill the festival turns 50 :P

Gonna be good! C is a wonderfull place!
With the weather this year, I recommend the area around where we camp. Close to the C tower.
It's a natural high ground, so less mud, and guarateed against flooded tents! ;)

I love your dog

And the coffin is looking really good, I'm digging the downsizing!
me kommer ikke før i 20:00 21:00 tiden en gang på fedag håper på og få plass på siden av dere som i fjor i køen. camp rebaz haugesund er rdy set rebaz !!

I think that's where we are heading at - even though we booked at west 1, which seems a bit south

Haha! Yeah Throvald is the best dog ever! And glad you like the downsizing! :)

Rockmus wrote: ...

Cool! were you in the west que last year?
Because last year 1 and two pretty much was side by side.
As in the "front line" of the que was the same, just devived down the middle out to the road.
So I woudn't worry to much :)
If you're early, and in the upper north corner, that would be the left flank of the que, you're in the same place as the guys in West 2 who are on the right flank :)

And I'll see you, Saturnus, on the docks in about 21 hours! :)

SKÅÅÅÅÅÅL!!!
Just thought I'd relive this thread as I was wondering how the build is gonna be this year?
pictures !!
All right!
I'll get some photos up and running :)
I've got some already but will have to resize and hos them on my server.
So in the mean time, you can all check how I've made the lid this year!
Now, I must say, I think it's my most high tech so far! :)
